Well, I've just come back from my August vacation, and although it was lovely to have the whole month off the payback is returning to a mountain of e-mails etc.;-)

However I've got to say that I feel absolutely fantastic and more energised than ever.

I spent the first four days of August on my own and went off on my motorbike. I do this every year, it gives me time to relax, destress and reflect on the previous year.(Time to meditate)

It really is so incredibly important to take time out from your busy schedule. Time to relax, time to reflect, time to think and time to plan. This is never a waste of time. In fact it is only when you step back from your busy schedule that you begin to get a true perspective and a sense of what is really important in life like family, relationships etc. The rest of the month was spent with family doing lots of activities like kayaking, walking and surfing.

This coming autumn is going to be such a busy time. The main focus for Noble Manhattan over the next few months will be providing enhanced backup and support for our students and coaches. We will be launching a number of initiatives all geared towards helping our students and coaches attract and work with new clients.
Initiatives such as :-

  • Local support groups
  • Specialised business building training
  • Professional press releases for all coaches and students
  • Business for Coaches - online community
  • Sales training
  • Courtroom coaching licence
  • Meaningful change weight loss licence

To name just a few. So you see we really do have our work cut out for us. I am so looking forward to working with you all over the months to come.

Courtroom coaching update

The pilot for courtroom coaching has been active for four weeks now and is going fantastically well. We have been working closely with Shelagh Goldie form Concordant who has helped us secure the backing of three more influential solicitors firms and we are in discussions with many more. We currently have eight active clients, one of which found us through our website which is brilliant considering that we have not yet actively launched or promoted it. Three of our coaches have been chosen to work on the pilot and have been extremely influential ensuring its success.

The first full training course for founder licensees for courtroom coaching will start on the 15th of October and is already over 50% subscribed. Starting this month we're very pleased to announce that we will be launching a whole series of new support groups throughout the UK for all our students and coaches. This is a fantastic opportunity for students or coaches to run their own group in their home town and with our help dramatically raise their own profile and at the same time help to build their own coaching practice We will be accepting applications from people who would like to run groups and then giving them all the training, backup, support that they need to initiate a successful coaching support initiative in their town.

Headlines - the most powerful part of your marketing communication

The headline is, without argument, the most important part of ANY marketing communication - whether that is a sales letter, print advertisement, web page, brochure or exhibition stand.

Why "without argument"? Simple - you can have written the best marketing copy in the world - a real copywriting dream - but unless you can excite readers enough to read it then all your effort is totally wasted. If your headline does not captivate your reader's attention they will not [repeat, will not!] read the rest of your communication.

Add to this the fact that you only have between 3 and 8 seconds to capture the reader's attention you can quickly see why a headline has to work hard.

The key word here is ATTENTION. You need to grab the reader by the scruff of the neck and shake them!

So how do you achieve this?

Here are 4 simple steps to help you write POWERFUL headlines:

  • 1. Define WHO it is you want to capture the attention of. Write it down. What makes your product/service valuable to them?
  • 2. Personalise it.
  • A good tip here is to consider the fact that your headline will be read by one person at a time and write accordingly. Think about the reader as a person - an individual

  • 3. Tell the reader what is the most important benefit to them, as an individual.
  • 4. Use power words - You, Free, New, Fast, Guaranteed, Proven, Just £100 etc.
  • Your headline should achieve one of the following:

  • a) Immediately convey the benefit on offer - e.g. "cut the cost of your motor insurance in half!"
  • b) Imply the benefit - e.g. "Are you looking to reduce the cost of your motor insurance?"
  • c) Ask a compelling question - e.g. "What would you do if I offered you £1000 in cash?"
  • d) Give the reader important information, that may be new to them - e.g. "Are you aware that over 192 million days are lost each year through staff illness?"

Why not try collecting headlines from mailings, press advertisements etc. that you have seen? You may just see one that you can adapt to your business! After all the big advertisers [Virgin, Egg, Orange etc.] employ the best copywriters in the world - that is how they make their living. And you can benefit from their expertise FREE OF CHARGE!

One final tip - AVOID USING HUMOUR - it very rarely works. What may be hilariously funny to you probably isn't to the next person!

Testimonials - how to get the most from this FREE marketing

Testimonials are a great way of adding credibility to what you do. They can help convince people that your service or product is good - it is as simple as that!

How often have you been to see a prospective customer, who you know needs your product or service and can afford to pay for it, but just needs a little extra persuasion? Maybe they don't quite believe that you can deliver what you claim you can, or whether it is safe to buy from you - after all they may not know you from Adam!

What this prospective customer is asking you to do is to prove to them that they can believe you. And what better way to show them what other customers have said about you! You wheel out your file of testimonials!

But how do you go about getting customers to give you testimonials?

Simple answer: ASK THEM!

You have nothing to be afraid of if you think about it - they are satisfied with your service so why shouldn't they be prepared to tell other people?

With this in mind, there are 3 ways to actually get customer testimonials:

1. Ring them up and ask them!

Simply pick up the telephone and say, "Were you happy with XYZ? Would you be prepared to give me a testimonial that I could use?"

Simple as that!

Truth is that whilst most people will find it impossible to say "No" they often won't get round to actually writing one for you. Or if they do it might not be exactly what you are looking for.

2. Write the testimonial for them

Once you have agreement from someone that they are prepared to give you a testimonial, take the effort away from them.

Write the testimonial on their behalf and fax it over to them with the following note: "Thanks very much for agreeing to provide a testimonial on my behalf. As I know you are extremely busy I have taken the liberty of drafting a few words on your behalf.

If you are happy with the content would you please sign and fax back to me on headed paper.

Many thanks in advance. Etc."

3. Use client satisfaction surveys to gather testimonials

Everyone should routinely conduct customer satisfaction surveys as a matter of course - if you are not ask yourself "why not?". Are you frightened of what you may hear? Or do you not care about what your customers think about you? Or are you unsure of what to ask?

Customer satisfaction surveys are an easy to obtain testimonials if you just ask!

For example use the following questions:

a) on a scale of 1 to 10 [where 1 is excellent and 10 is awful] how well have we......

b) on a scale of 1 to 10 how satisfied are you with our service to you?

c) If you experience has been positive would you care to provide a testimonial for use in our promotional materials?

Don't forget them to ask for signed permission to use it before you print it anywhere.

Remember testimonials can be a very powerful sales tool, a form a valuable part of your sales tool-kit. Plus they are very easy AND FREE to get!

So there you go - more simple and effective ways to boost your business performance Thanks and good luck.

As discussed previously I cannot pay fees, but any speaker will be promoted through my website, flyers, local women's networks etc., and of course the evening itself will be attended by around 30 people. I also have just opened a "Speakers" page on my website, where I am happy to place biographies and photographs, which is another opportunity for them.
